Is it just me or should the government be advertising? I mean why?

They are, you know.

I just watched an ad for a pharmacist that works for the Veterans Administration. Why do we need TV ads for people who work for the VA?

But even worse, EVERY branch of our armed forces advertise in NASCAR. Those are our TAX dollars at work. Do you know how much it costs to sponsor a car in the NASCAR Cup series? The Army spends more than $7 million a year.

Why is this happening and who authorized it? I didn’t.

Did you?

Since my last post a new phenomenon has developed within America, it is called “Occupy”. Be it “Occupy Wall Street”, “Occupy Atlanta, “Occupy San Francisco”, whatever, you get the point. These are mostly young people who are mad at the 1% of the population they perceive as wealthy. They are the 99%, or the NOT wealthy.

Among other things they’re upset about having to pay back their college loans. It just isn’t “fair”.

Back in the early 80’s, when my kids were playing little league and t-ball, one year my daughter’s t-ball team didn’t achieve first place thereby winning a much coveted trophy. Several mothers of children on the team talked about buying trophies for the team so they wouldn’t feel “slighted” or “losers”. My wife stepped up and said NO! They were losers. You don’t reward a losing team, you reward the winning team. No trophies were bought.

As the 90’s rolled around, the thought process of those other mothers eventually won out and losing teams started receiving trophies just as big as the winning teams. In fact, they even stopped keeping score since that was a reflection of how well one child did over another child.

Today, those children of the 90’s have grown up not keeping score. They believe they are entitled to the same trophies that achieving children receive. But they’re wrong. I was proud of my wife back then and I’m still proud of my children today. They are both over-achievers. They are both successful, because they learned you had to accept losing.

The Occupy Wall Street children didn’t learn this lesson. My answer to you occupiers is yes, life isn’t “fair”. The Real World Keeps Score!

To learn more watch this excellent video.

I’ve not posted in a while. I’ve really been afraid to post. I don’t want to be political though I know a lot of my posts lean toward the conservative side of the aisle. I lean toward the conservative side.

What scares me more than being political in one of my posts, however, is where we are going. Recently a state governor made the following statement:

“You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things. I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. The one good thing about Raleigh is that for so many years we worked across party lines. It’s a little bit more contentious now but it’s not impossible to try to do what’s right in this state. You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”

I understand her concern. She’s trying to take politics out of our economic problems. Unfortunately politics ARE the problem. And what she’s advocating is very dangerous. You can’t spend more money than you have, but yet we do. A WHOLE LOT more.

The answer to the Governor’s statement lies in another post I read today; TERM LIMITS. That, and no pension. Serving in Congress was never meant to be a life-time job. You were supposed to go to Washington, serve your country by representing your home state, then return home to your FULL time job. Whatever that may have been it certainly wasn’t a politician.

Because, we can’t. We’re wired differently.

There are those that believe in global warming. They believe global warming is a direct result of mankind raping the planet earth and causing near irreversible damage to the environment which will eventually lead to total destruction if it is not curtailed. Then, there are those that believe global warming is fictional. Just cycles in the planet’s ever continuing weather patterns. This is written in 2011 when some portions of America are seeing some of the coldest winters ever recorded. Just five years ago we had the warmest. Which do you believe in?

There are those who believe the world should be a utopia. They believe that, according to Wikipedia, goods should be shared “frequently with the total abolition of money, and citizens only doing work which they enjoy and which is for the common good, leaving them with ample time for the cultivation of the arts and sciences” Then, there are those who believe in capitalism where production is privately owned and operated for a profit. Where citizens work hard and can “invest” in those ventures thereby sharing in the profits and accumulate wealth. Which do you believe in?

There are those who believe they should be cared for. They believe that it is someone else’s responsibility to provide for their retirement, their healthcare, their welfare. Then, there are those who believe you should be responsible for yourself. They believe you should accumulate wealth over a lifetime of hard work. You should plan and save for your retirement, work and pay for your welfare. Invest in an insurance plan to cover your healthcare needs. Which do you believe in?

You see, I could go on and on. We are all wired differently. We all have different beliefs. We can agree on some things but not on all things. We never will.

And, unfortunately, there are those who amass wealth pandering to all those different beliefs. They manage to obtain a position to see to it that some will actually get their wishes, all the while entrenching themselves in that position. They use beliefs such as the threat of global warming to ensure their agenda is the one chosen. And we blindly let them do it because we all want something and we need someone who can provide it. We ALL want someone to represent us in the game.

Why can’t we ALL get along?

Because, we can’t and never will. We just don’t think and believe the same.

Obviously I’m not a big fan of BIG GOVERNMENT. I believe government should provide the necessities: bridges, roads, police and fire protection – that’s pretty much it. Education should be up to parents, NOT government. Welfare belongs to the family and church. That is the way it was originally. Our government has ever so slowly taken responsibility for way too much of our lives. And, there is a LONG line of citizens who think it is now their right to this government care and are demanding more.

Now the FCC thinks it can “preserve the freedom and openness of the internet.” The last “new frontier” will fall unless we can convince our Congressmen to stop it.

PLEASE read this article. It explains it way better than I can.

In an earlier post I commented on the fact that our government, whether it be local, state or federal, does not produce anything it can sell to satisfy its debt. It can ONLY tax its citizens. That tax is on the money its citizens EARN themselves and it is money given to the government to pay for infrastructure such as police, fire, roads and bridges, yes even bridges to nowhere in Alaska.

The Supreme Court is currently reviewing a case that an earlier federal district court dismissed as “frivolous”. Why? Because the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a tax credit – which is the taxpayer’s OWN money, remember – when used by a private citizen to pay for education at a religious institution is a violation of church and state and therefore unconstitutional under the First Amendment.

For this to be the case, the Ninth Circuit CoA is assuming this money in private hands belongs to the government and not to the private citizen who earned it. Again why? Because it is money that WOULD have been given to the government and therefore they can tell you how to spend it. Is that not CRAZY?

I don’t think it is me but I’m beginning to worry about the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

When I was growing up I saw the world as black or white, on or off, good or evil. <!– No wonder I became a programmer –>. Shades of gray never entered my mind. To the young idealist I was, reality of the world around me was a shocker. The fact that someone could lie, get away with the lie and not be punished for the lie was a blasphemy. Needless to say I’ve hardened over the years.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that a person who lied about being awarded the Medal of Honor was protected by the Constitution under the 1st amendment. According to the Ninth Circuit ‘the Constitution presumptively protects “all speech, including false statements.”’

Do you understand this? A person can LIE and that person is protected from prosecution by the Constitution of the United States. What does this do to PERJURY?

I presume lying in a courtroom is DIFFERENT than lying in public. Perhaps not to the Ninth Circuit?

This time, it isn’t me for sure.

In big bold letters the Wall Street Journal headline reads:

To Protest Hiring of Nonunion Help, Union Hires Nonunion Pickets

How asinine is this? The reason given? “For a lot of our members, it’s really difficult to have them come out, either because of parking or something else.”

So, they hire unemployed workers to walk the picket line at minimum wage to “march around and sound off”.

Read it here yourself.
